A bit about moi....

I thought Id start off with a little about me, without making it sound like a  cover letter - let me tell you I have written so many of those things recently I think its engrained on my brain! I graduated from University last year with a 2:1 BA Hons in (Comparative) Media. Since leaving University I have worked for Arts Council England assisting a local Indian dance school with a publication to celebrate their 30th Anniversary. My main duties were copywriting, audience research, basic marketing for the company and reasearch for the book itself. Working with an Indian company, and not being Indian myself was actually a lot of fun and very very interesting. It opened my eyes to a whole different world and culture.

Although, as with any placement not all went to plan. I wont say WHO i worked with but the actual placement was very badly organised andI didnt get anywhere near the level of work I wanted to do before the placement ended. I was bitterly disappointed as there was somuch more I could have done.... But Arts Council England is a VERY good thing to have on your CV!

During my time at University I became heavily involved in a goverment funded project called Collaborating for Creativity (aka C4C). The aim of the project was to fund, support and create smaller projects within the Faculty of Arts. The Media project was a magazine called Neutral Magazine (I'll probably post a little about that later on....). The name came from a student who was interested in Barthes idea of Neutrality, but using the name as tongue in cheek as 'Neutral' was as far from Neutrality as you can get. It is/was a 100% professional publication created by students for academics. We had it published in places such as York Library, York Art Gallery, York Theatre and various HE institutions within the North. Sadly as with all funding, it ended. So Neutral is now incorporated into the course itself at second and third year level.

It was the work with NM that gave the ideaof working in Publishing; whether that be print or online, and ACE simply cemented my passion for it.
